What kind of leadership watches in silence as its citizens are butchered in their hundreds, many of them children barely old enough to speak?
How does a government remain unmoved while infants aged 3, 4, and 5 are hacked, shot, and burned alive by marauding terrorists who now operate with unchallenged audacity across the country?
The answer lies in the tragic reality we live in today.
Nigeria is being governed by a cold, detached regime under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose commitment to human life is as empty as their campaign promises.
Over 200 lives were recently wiped out in coordinated attacks across Benue and Plateau States.
Among them were toddlers and school-age children, their only crime being born into a country governed by men who value political calculations over human dignity.
Yet, what have we heard from Tinubu?
Another recycled press statement.
Another shallow directive to security agencies.
Another photo-op while our villages are drenched in blood.
This is not leadership.
This is betrayal.
Regrettably, if President Tinubu were to visit Benue State today and Governor Fr. Hyacinth Alia were given 30 minutes to address the security crisis in his state, he would most likely spend 29 minutes offering praises to Tinubu, and a meager one minute telling victims to “calm down” while assuring them that “the perpetrators will be brought to book.”
This is the quality of governance we now endure.
Disconnected, performative, and tragically unhelpful.
This is how unconcerned and unuseful both Tinubu and many state governors have become to the very people they swore to protect.
They have become complicit by inaction and indifferent by choice.
What makes this massacre even more horrifying is the utter indifference from the very government sworn to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
Tinubu’s administration continues to function as though nothing happened.
No visit to the affected communities.
No emergency summit.
No clear, coordinated security response.
Instead, the government has normalized mass death, reducing national mourning to hashtags and hollow rhetoric.
The APC, as a ruling party, must also bear collective guilt.
This is the same party that rode to power promising to end insecurity and restore order.
What they have delivered instead is national carnage, economic strangulation, and the rapid erosion of public trust.
The same APC that declared a state of emergency over political squabbles in Rivers State has not seen the need to do the same for Benue where hundreds of innocent citizens, including babies, were slaughtered.
Is this what justice looks like in the so-called renewed hope?
Let it be said plainly.
Under APC rule, death has become a recurring headline.
Blood has become the ink with which governance failures are written.
And the only thing consistent about President Tinubu is his inconsistency in action and indifference to pain.
To say we are tired is an understatement.
We are outraged.
We are grieving.
And we are calling for accountability, not just from the faceless killers, but from the policymakers, the president, and the party whose silence is enabling this evil.
Enough of the selective outrage.
Enough of the staged concern.
If President Tinubu cannot secure the lives of 3-year-olds in Benue, he has no moral right to stay in office.
If the APC cannot guarantee security, unity, and justice, it must not be allowed to remain in power a day longer than necessary.
The blood of these children cries from the earth.
History will not forget those who failed them.
