In this Month of June 2020, as we launch “The Renaissance On-line Magazine,” I have arisen to the dawn of an opportunity to begin a new chapter in my writing career.
I affirm what Richard Bach said in Illusions: The Adventure of a Reluctant Messiah, that “everywhere I turn to begins a new beginning, for as the sky knows the seasons and patterns behind the clouds, I have been lifted to see beyond the eyes.” Indeed, I have also been lifted to know that writing is one of my talents and a valuable gift to use and bless the world.
As the Lord asked Moses in the Bible, “What is in your hand?” I had likewise asked myself “what are in my hands?” Moses had in his hand, a “Staff” which he used to carrying out his life’s work.
I am also using what is in my own hand (my Pen) in addition to my Intellect and other abilities to carry out my own unique life’s work which aligns me to my purpose on earth.
At this stage in our lives, I am amazed at the interlude between our childhood and enthralled at the dramatic divergence of our lives with the more serious endeavors of adulthood. Yes! As Ralph Waldo Emerson says “when the fruit is ripe it falls.” Having searched for meaning for so long, I know the fruit is ripe as we launch this new project with our team of intellectuals.
In my poem “The Carousel of My Existence,” which was inspired by Richard Bach’s quotes but written in my words, I stated that: “A wish is given unto me with the power to make it true. I work with the world as my notebook, summing reality on its pages; knowing it is not real, I can write nonsense as I wish. I can write lies or tear the pages too, even as I please.”
I recall my undergraduate learning in the field of Librarianship, on the Five Laws of Library Science by S.R. Ranganathan which states that: “Books are for use; Every reader his book; Every book its reader; Save the time of the reader; The library is a growing organism. Today, our libraries have become virtual and as a professional custodian of books, it is my duty to make meaningful and interesting input to these virtual collections.
As a Published Author, writer and Poet, I also have the fulfilment of continually adding value to people’s lives even as I explore my other potentials in order to live a meaningful and worthy life as I daily and surely work on my Legacy.
Today I am honored to present you with my work:
“Portable Lines @ The Renaissance.”
I ask the Heavenly light to guide me write continuously, as I also but humbly ask you to follow me through this new season of our work with The Renaissance.
I would love you to take away the nuggets below from the teachings of Mr. Muyiwa Afolabi on “Remaining Valuable Through Life.”
Have you defined your life’s work and are you a gift to the world? Think of the problems you can solve in our world that is in dare need of help.
Strive to be knowledgeable in your field of interest and in your Gate
Endeavour to seek wisdom to identify your destiny helpers.
Be a great Networker for your network should translate to your net worth.
The number of important people that know you for some value you add to their lives is a key to assessing your net worth.
Be visible. Get out and shine. Advertise and invest time in the media.
Be relevant in any group or association you find yourself in. Let your presence be missed when you are not available.
Be a great leader. Develop successors greater than yourself. Aspire to leave a legacy as you exit the world.
Remember that anyone wrapped in himself will make a small package. Think of how you would be remembered bearing in mind that your value will be written on your epitaph. -Muyiwa Afolabi.
We all have been created with varying degrees of talents and what we do with them is solely up to us. I urge you to go on a self-discovery journey if you have not yet discovered your talent. You should work hard at it and live your best life to die empty for the graveyards have more talents buried with the corpses than you could ever imagine.
I will keep writing and I will make a great harvest and even an overflow, as the River Jordan always overflows its banks in its season.
Indeed, as the Librarian in me affirms in the fourth Law: “Save the time of the reader,” I will make my writings brief.
Follow me today as we read and expand our horizon, but first let me ask:
