The beginning of any venture is usually exciting; an excitement drawn from the fact that it is rife with opportunities and challenges.
“The Renaissance” is the period of a new birth; a time of limitless and endless opportunities.
Opportunities open up new vistas and the Renaissance Online Magazine is definitely a new vista designed to run as an independent entity with a global appeal but will act as a catalyst for the Government Secondary School Owerri Old Boys’ to leverage on to enable them build better relationships and networks in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
It is hoped that eventually, this Magazine “The Renaissance would be a pride to a global audience of intellectuals especially those who value academic journals and magazines such as those of the Harvard Business School that bears the name of the parent institution yet runs as an independent magazine with a global appeal.
The conception is already a milestone and is a defining moment in our collective aspirations and yearnings.
The Magazine will thus maintain a symbiotic relationship with the GSSO and its Alumni Association. It is hoped therefore that the GSSO will leverage on the platform of this novel venture, The Renaissance Magazine to celebrate both the Old Boys and the current students of the school while the magazine as an independent venture in turn leverages on the numbers and strength of the Alumni Association for its out-reach.
The vision bearer of this magazine is Chijioke Henry Orji an Attorney-at-Law who is an illustrious son of Owerri and a proud Old Boy of the Government Secondary School Owerri. Having designed this magazine project as his personal venture, (an Independent Magazine) he yet gave it as a gift to his Alma-Mater to leverage upon; the school that gave a lift to a countless number of young men through the years especially men and young boys of the Eastern Nigeria.
The Magazine will celebrate general issues such as – Literacy, Businesses, Events, Discoveries, Sports, Reminiscence, Family Life, Lectures, etc.
It is hoped that the launch of this Magazine will instil pride and inspire all Old Boys be they active or inactive and get all engaged with the alumni affairs.
It will also be a platform for the present students of the Government Secondary School Owerri to reach a global audience that will read and appreciate their intellectual and creative skills.
Our journey has just begun and as we thread on a hallowed path, we know this is the beginning of beginnings.
Our teams of pathfinders are on a course to explore this new realm and I am privileged to have been invited as an Old Boy of the Government Secondary School Owerri, to serve as the pioneer editor of this historic magazine.
To all Ogssians, home and abroad, this magazine is Totus Toous (Entirely yours.)
