October 1st , 1960 , Nigeria gained her independence from Great Britain.
History attributes the motion for independence to Chief Anthony Enahoro of the Western House of Assembly in 1953.
However, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode claims that it was actually successfully moved by his father, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode on 2nd August, 1958.
The earlier motion in 1953 by Chief Anthony Enahoro that proposed “Self Rule” (independence) by 1956 had failed, and led to a “walk out” by the NPC Parliamentarians who were of the view that Nigeria was not yet ready for independence.
Alhaji Tafawa Belewa’s motion in 1959 was to amend the existing successful motion of 1958.
October 1 , 1963 : Nigeria became a republic. Republicanism was supposed to confer full sovereignity on Nigeria.
28th September , 1961 Dissolution of the United Arab Republic, as a result of a coup in Damascus. The United Arab Republic was a short lived union between Syria and Egypt.
September 28 , 1995 : Israel and the PLO signed the Oslo 11 accord.
It was signed by Yitzhak Rabin, the Israeli Prime Minister and the PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat. This interim agreement on the West Bank, also known as the Taba Agreement divided Gaza and West Bank into three areas and gave limited control over some of the areas to the Palestinians.
